The Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) invites residents to participate in the eighth annual Girl Power Contest in honor of Women’s History Month. Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery County Public Libraries are co-sponsoring the event.
This year’s contest asks participants to explore how media influences confidence, ambition and self-worth, especially for young girls and women. Entrants must describe the type of media they would create to inspire, uplift and empower girls and women.
Residents ages five and older can submit a short story, poem, drawing or other creative work. Submissions are due by Monday, March 31, at 5 p.m. Each person may submit only one entry. Written entries must be 500 words or fewer.
Submissions must include the entrant’s full name, age, grade and school (if applicable), phone number and email. Minors must have parent or guardian permission. Entries must be original and become the property of CFW, which may use them for publicity.
CFW will select winners in four categories: elementary, middle, high school and adult. Winners will receive recognition on CFW’s social media, a certificate, and a Girl Power swag bag. They will also attend a recognition ceremony. CFW will announce winners in early May.
Entrants should submit their work online through the contest entry form. While electronic submissions are preferred, they can also email entries to cfwinfo@montgomerycountymd.gov or mail them to: 2025 Girl Power Contest, Montgomery County Commission for Women, 21 Maryland Avenue, Suite 330, Rockville, MD 20850.
